Hall of Fame

When a business wins the same category 3 years in a row they are put in the Hall of Fame and invited to judge that category the following year.

The Blue Mountains community receives the support of many businesses whose contribution has a profound effect on our local community. Each year, the Blue Mountains Business Awards recognize the outstanding achievements of the most benevolent business in the region with a Community Contribution award.

From 2009 to 2011, the winning business was Bygone Beautys antique emporium and tea rooms of Leura. Owner Maurice Cooper OAM, says "When my partner, Kerry McKenzie and I started in business over 40 years ago, we made a commitment that we would assist the community wherever we saw the need and were able to do so."

Bygone Beautys is also in the Hall of Fame for winning the BlueMountainsAustralia.com Peoples' Choice award 3 years running.

iKOU has won the Beauty Category 3 years running from 2011 to 2013 and is also in the Hall of Fame.

iKOU (ik-oo: meaning “to rest, to relax, to restore”) develops and manufactures skin care, body products, candles and organic tea with a focus on environmental sustainability, the use of natural Australian ingredients and balancing a luxurious personal experience with the principles of fair trade, ethically sourced ingredients and ecological responsibility.

iKOU is the brainchild of Paul & Naomi Whitfeld. They are based in the World Heritage Listed Blue Mountains, just outside of Sydney. Self described "matching jig-saw pieces", their joint skills have resulted in a brand that reflects all of their passions.

From humble beginnings making products in a Blue Mountains kitchen and  converted garage, iKOU now has company owned retail stores and supplies hundreds of businesses throughout Australia and overseas, including many of the worlds Leading Luxury Resorts & Day Spas.

Both keen travelers, their Global experiences have influenced the brand's culture in many ways.
Paul and Naomi's travels created an awareness of the impact that business has on the environment, people and animals. This prompted them to hand-make their own product, so that all manufacture would fit iKOU's philosophy, and that they would know exactly what ingredients were utilised. They researched ethical options for production, purchasing of ingredients for their products, as well as fair trade and supporting charity groups.

“We spent six months living and breathing the entire concept of iKOU, until we decided it was ready to share with the world.”

Their desire was to create a business that was sustainable to all, and also the earth.

“Our product development always stayed true to our personal passion for the protection of animals, the environment, and being a business that benefited others. We sourced and researched the impact of our ingredients and methods of production to ensure iKOU was an ethical and sustainable business from the start.”

Our third Hall of Fame business is Rubyfruit

Rubyfruit won the Peoples' Choice Award in 2012, 2013 & 2014.

Rubyfruit is a popular vegan cafe in Leura that offers a range of delicious meals, indulgent sweets, coffee, super smoothies and grocery items. Everything is 100% egg-free, dairy-free and vegan, with a large range of gluten-free options. They were honored to attend the State awards last year as a finalist for Excellence in Innovation.
